What are the ingredients that make up your most delicious life?  Your ideal life recipe is as unique as you are.  And just like in the kitchen, sometimes it takes experimentation with different ingredients to get the recipe just right.  Here at Life Reinspired, we’ve learned through our research that life ingredients need to come from three main categories.  We call them the three P’s:

  • People – to love and serve
  • Purpose – something meaningful to do
  • Pleasure – fun things to look forward to and enjoy

The ingredients will be different for each person and may change over time.  Making sure they fill all three P’s is essential to well-being.

If you have followed my blog, you read that over the Winter I took a part-time job ski instructing children.  It ended up being more meaningful than I could have imagined.  It connected me to all the things I love most.  As I look back, one of the reasons it was so meaningful is that it incorporated the three P’s:

  • the kids were the people I loved and served
  • teaching skiing was the meaningful work that satisfied my need for purpose
  • skiing and being outdoors on the mountain brought me great pleasure, and the red ski instructor jacket was pretty cool too!

It didn’t fill my pocket book, but it was fun, I enjoyed it and the flexible schedule made it possible for me to organize the ski instructing around my coaching and training business (which I also find a most delicious ingredient in my life).

As the Winter is over, I’ve decided to experiment with another life ingredient.  At the end of the season, one of the ski instructors asked if I would consider a part-time Summer job working for a garden nursery and I decided to say yes.  Again this is something I couldn’t have imagined myself doing during my years as an executive.  I’m punching a time clock, spending time with plants and trees, helping in the retail gift shop, and may even learn to drive the loader!  It’s all new and I can’t wait to get up in the morning, put on my gardening apron, and go to work.  It’s a ‘pleasant surprise’ ingredient to my life.

I have a few more ingredients in my recipe for my delicious life.  In addition to my coaching and training business, and part-time work mentioned above, I play guitar and sing, volunteer in the community, am active outdoors, and spend time with family and friends.  As a result of having the three P’s covered I feel blessed.  I am sharing my life ingredients with you in the hope that it  inspires you to experiment and come up with a life recipe that makes you feel blessed as well.  Try things you may not have considered before.  Don’t let pride or the need to look good keep you from something that could bring you purpose and pleasure.  Experiment.  You can always change your mind and try a different ingredient if something doesn’t work out.

Only you know the ingredients that will be most delicious to you, so start experimenting and cook up a great life! Join LifeReinspired to support your plan for your next chapter.
